DescriptionThe fourth Duke of Manchester built Manchester House, Manchester Square in 1776 and on his death in 1788, it became the residence of the Spanish ambassador and afterwards the property of the Marquis of Hertford. It now houses the wallace Collection. During the time that the spanish ambassador resided there he erected the Spanish Chapel, dedicated to St James 9in 1796). the architect was joseph Bonomi. It was finished off externally with stucco, was enlarged in 1846 and demolished in 1891
