The land was enclosed by the late Duke, the premises then being called Duke's Yard and being near to the Mews, abutting south on the mews, north on St Martin's new churchyard, east on St Martin's Lane and on the west on a way leading from the Mews into Fields commonly called St Martin's Fields.
