DescriptionMembers of the Womens' Social and Political Union, known as suffragettes, mounted a vigorous campaign for votes for women in the early years of the twentieth century with street parades, demonstrations and rallies in Hyde Park and Trafalgar Square. The banner proclaims Hope is Strong but it was not until the end of the First World War that women over thirty gained the vote and younger women had to wait until 1928.
