Rev Samuel Ringgold Ward, escaped from slavery at a young age and then trained as a Congregational minister. He became a leading anti-slavery orator.

John Brown (ca 1810-1876) wrote a "Slave Life in Georgia: A Narrative of the Life, Sufferings, and Escape of John Brown, a Fugitive Slave now in England", Edited by L A Chamerovzow, Secretary of the British and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society. Published London 1855
