Description | Two views of St James's Park, looking towards Whitehall. The upper engraving depicts a long tree-lined avenue. Whitehall Palace and Westminster Abbey can be seen on the horizon. The engraving is based on a drawing in the possession of William Stevenson, and is engraved by S Rawle.The second engraving, again by Rawle, is based on a picture in the collection of Charles Gower, a physician at the Middlesex Hospital. The view incorporates the western edge of St James's Park, and depicts Whitehall Palace and Inigo Jones's Banqueting House in detail. Published by John Thomas Smith on 1 June 1804. |
