DescriptionView of the fine interior of a dining room at the Grand Hotel. The hotel opened in 1880 on the site of the former Northumberland House and was designed by the architects Francis & Francis. The walls of the dining room were covered in long Venetian mirrors and the high decorated ceiling was supported by white scagliola columns with gilded captials. The principal dining hall could seat up to 300 guests and was open to non-residents. This view shows room set out for dinner, with menus on the tables. Photograph taken by Bedford Lemere & Co.
