Title[View of the Palace of Westminster and Old Palace Yard]
DescriptionView from the south end of Old Palace Yard, looking north towards St Stephen's Hall. To the right of the image is the Sovereign's Entrance, at the base of the Victoria Tower. There are horse-drawn carts and motor vehicles in Old Palace Yard. In the background, in front of St Stephen's Hall, stands Marochetti's statue of Richard Coeur-de-Lion. The caption on the reverse of the postcard reads: "Royal Entrance - At the foot of the noble Victoria Tower is a lofty arch, 50 feet high, and this is teh Royal Entrance through which Their Majesties the King and Queen pass at the Opening of Parliament. The buildings which house the "Mother of Parliaments" were designed by Sir Charles Barry, who was assisted by Augustus Pugin. They were built in 1840-50 at a cost of nearly £3,000,000".
