Title | Patience (Miss Clara Dow) |
Description | Portrait of Clara Dow in the title role of "Patience". She is wearing a summer dress and hat bedecked with flowers. She poses for the photograph amongst a bank of bulrushes. The caption on the reverse of the card reads: Patience - This pretty study portrays the beautiful dairymaid to whose charms "the fleshy poet", Reginald Bunthorne, succumbs. This yielding to the attractions of the country maiden greatly disconcerts the chorus of "twenty love-sick maidens" who have embraced the aesthetic cult in an endeavour to impress Bunthorne. In the end, Patience falls in love with Archibald Grosvenor, "the idyllic poet". Postcard published by Raphael Tuck as part of the "Play Pictorial" series; photograph by Dover Street Studios. |
