Title | [Clara Dow and Henry Lytton in 'Iolanthe'] |
Description | Full-length portrait of Clara Dow as Phyllis and Henry Lytton as Strephon in Gilbert and Sullivan's operetta, 'Iolanthe'. They pose, holding hands, in eighteenth-century costume. Postcard published by Raphael Tuck for the 'Play Pictorial' series. The caption on the reverse of the card reads: 'Strephon and Phyllis, Act II: "If we're weak enough to tarry, Ere we marry, You and I". This charming picture illustrates the scene in which Strephon and Phyllis, the two Arcadian lovers, are reconciled, after the difference which has existed between them since feelings of jealousy were created in Phyllis' mind when she discovered her lover in conversation with his youthful-looking fairy mother'. |
