The caption on the reverse of the card reads: 'The Queen of the Fairies at whose decree Iolanthe is banished from Fairyland for having married a mortal. After twenty-five years' exile at the bottom of a stream, she is recalled, at the intercession of her fellows, and pardoned: "For a dark sin against our fairy laws, We sent thee into banishment; But mercy holds her sway within our hearts - Rise! Thou art pardoned!!"'. |
