Description | The Royal Humane Society was founded in 1774 to provide a rescue service for people using the Serpentine in Hyde Park. The Receiving House was built on the north bank of the Serpentine so that people could be brought there for first aid after being rescued. This engraving, showing people being revived with the assistance of hot baths, dates from about 1850. Cutting from a newspaper or magazine. |
