Description | Black and white postcard of the west walk of the Cloister at Westminster Abbey, looking south. The caption on the reverse of the card reads: 'The Cloisters. The oldest part of the Cloisters dating from the 13th century is as fine as anything of the kind anywhere. Here are several varieties of early traceries. The upper parts of the openings on to the Cloister-garth were once glazed, for the Cloister was the centre of monastic life and occupation, study and scholastic work, as well as a place for meditation and on Sundays and Feasts for Processions'. Postcard published by Raphael Tuck & Sons in the 'Photogravure' series (no. 2160). |
