DescriptionThe Manor House School was founded in about 1650 by Hugeunot refugees from France. This picture was painted after the school had closed in 1787, after the death of its owner, Dr Fontaine. The School was on Marylebone High Street. A similar watercolour has been attributed to Michael Angelo Rooker (1746-1801) and there is another version in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge
