Description | George IV was crowned king on the 19th July 1821. This engraving by George Scharf shows the crowds lining the route of the coronation procession, in spite of the new king's unpopularity. Showing the procession on a (covered) path and all the public viewing from differently priced stands and on the ground. To give a more extensive view of the procession, the platform is representive without a roof. The crowd includes two Chinese men who can just be seen in the bottom right hand corner of the engraving. |
